New Place, New Friends: Grafitti Pier by Canaan Ng

Back in October, I was able to convince a few new friends from my church here in Philly to check out the Grafitti Pier with me. It was fun to go out and take some pictures in a new environment with new friends. I found out when you ask someone to pose for pictures, their character and personality really shines through. Either they are very energetic and dynamic, serious or slightly shy or just epically cool. A photograph can capture more than a face, it can capture emotion, personality and I truly believe it is an art. It is an art I am still trying to learn and explore but it is such a fun medium to play with especially when photographing friends and exploring!

The Changs by Canaan Ng

People keep asking me what is next. What am I looking forward in my next step in life after finishing my Masters. I usually have a pretty short answer. I might not know where my Mechanical Engineering and Photography might take me, but one thing I know is I look forward to become a husband and a father (God willing). Before I left for Philly I got to squeeze in a last minute shoot with the Changs. This family was in my small group and I gotten a chance to get to know them and the kids. It fills my heart seeing the joy the parents have looking at their kids play or say something silly.  It is so fun to help capture these photos for families like the Changs no matter how unwilling to sit still the kids might be. It is hard to get everyone looking at the camera but sometimes there are some good candids! Here are a few from that shoot.

First Month in Philly by Canaan Ng

Time is flying by. It has been a month already. Here are some Pictures I have taken in the past month from walking around the inner City Center and around UPenn and Drexel Campus. These pictures are from my canon 70d with Tokina 11-16mm f2.8, Sigma 35mm f1.4 and my Panasonic LX100. It has been challenging to work without a full frame camera but it is also challenging me to work on composition. What do you think??? Feel free to comment below. I really enjoy the architecture of this city. Philadelphia has such a variety of different patterns, shapes and forms. So much contrast beside adjacent buildings. The walking and street photography is very fun. Always have to keep my eyes peeled for something that will catch my eye. Also added a few random shot from the trusty GoPro.
